Hi Andy,

the Xilinx CoolRunner available in PLCC-44, which can be placed in a socket on an universal pcb with 2.54mm hole grid.

Unfortunately the 5V parts discontinued soon. So you need in future a 3.3V regulator for it, but the inputs and outputs are still 5V tolerant.

All needed tools can you get for free from the Xilinx web (compiler, programmer over the LPT-port.

Really nice part (CMOS, near zero power consumption), I love it.

Look for the XCR5064C,
