I have an old Intel MCS-85 User's Manual which describes the 8279 device (preliminary spec too!). The thing scans a 64-key matrix (n-key rollover an option!) & drives an 8-digit display (not clear how, tho). If you ask nicely, I could (try &) scan the 11 pages & E-mail them to you.
