You can run the current (static) '51s with any crystal you want, maryams info is at least 5 years old. Btw 12 Mhz will lead to very poor serial performance. Try debugging your eternal eprom with your ICE, most likely you have an address or data wire crossed. Oh, I just remember, what latch are you using for the address?
