Still I tend to use optimization at about a "medium" setting
since the aforementioned debug 'on the fly' is mainly done with an ICE I can not even do that. The 'combined tails' are a killer.

I do use optimize 2 with Keil which does nothing (I know of) except overlay variables. This does not affect emulation as long as you know what the C definition of 'scope of a variable' is.
