Why ?

In the bad old days of limited and expensive memory, saving a few bytes mattered, but today ?

The only time I can see code compression as an issue is like the equipment I work on which needs to transfer upto 4Mb using a slow serial link, so we compress the code and unpack it once downloaded, not I may add using a 8051 but Motorola Coldfire/PowerPC processors.
