Seriously, I think we have to assume that the OP wants to write a compiler in order to learn how to write a compiler (or maybe an assembler, actually, given the nature of the original question). If that's the case, then I say, "more power to him."

I know! Instead of assuming anything, let's just ask the guy.

Mike Stegmaier: Can you tell us more about what you are trying to do:
  • Are your writing a compiler or an assembler?
  • Why?
  • If it's a compiler, are you writing it in QBasic (as your original question said), or are you really writing a cross compiler so you can run QBasic on the 8051?
  • Do you need some information that you cannot find here?
