Russ has already answered your question, so I'll just add a comment on why someone might want to learn compiler theory. There is so much one needs to know, from diverse areas of computer science, to write a half-way decent compiler (even a toy compiler), that if you can get to that point, you can pretty much consider yourself a software guru. That has value to some folks. I wish Mike luck in his journey. It's a lot of fun, and the rewards are great. |
