So, let me try something straight for newbies When investigationg something else I realized this. Ever so many questions pop up get re the AT89s8253 family. Visiting DigiKey I saw that @1 the AT cost @5.70 and a P89LPC935 cost $3.06. Using DigiKey as a price point reference, not telling you to buy there. Yes the LPC does not come in DIL, but there are plenty sockets that 'spread' a PLCC to 0,1" pins so hand soldering is not a problem. What more do you get when you save $2 ($0.70 for the socket)? Well you get RS-232 download instead of the Atmel download that nobody seems to make work. Well you get a plethora of features: A/D, D/A, HW IIC, HW SPI and a lot more.
