#128191 - Ripple current Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Arif said:
I have SMPS which has 5 and 12 volt out and current capability is 500mA. Its out filter capacitor is heating even though load is not connected. Can any body tell me what will be the couse. Please do the need full. The output filter cap is used to suppress the ripple. And the resulting ripple is heating up the cap. Nevertheless the heating should be little, so this cap is probably old and damaged. There are special caps for switching converter applications, which show rather low equivalent series resistance (ESR) and produce less heat. Kai |
