IIC is probably one of the areas where assembler still shpuld rule. Most (all I know) IIC is written using timing loops and that loop is executed many times. There are some REAL advantages to keeping the IIC timing tight unless, of course, you are one of those that believe that if your code is slow the cure is faster iron. I am somewhat ambivalent as to whether assembler or "C" except in the cases where timing matters (visualize a soft UART in "C"). I do prefer "C" over assembler, but will use assembler where the advantages outweigh the added code time.
