I started working on an electronic ignition for my bike a while back using an 89C2051. I used the output circuitry design from the original ignition box which fires the plugs OK, but micro usually resets. I need to build a better power supply circuit so I thought I would borrow from the original design again. Seems like a regular 7805 circuit with the proper caps on the input and output, but I also noticed a diode with a red band in series with the input. Is this what is called a suppression diode or tranzorb?
