#139986 - Don't like PC doing things not told to Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi Jan,
<start of rant> It seems that every new version of Windows, Adobe Reader, etc. tries to take more control of the PC from the owner. I have a great distaste for the PC working on anything other than what I told it to work on. I find it distasteful when the hard drive starts working and the Internet connection blinks on and off by itself without my having told the PC to log on. I don't go to extremes but when the options arise I disable functions that I do not need and I don't need pop-up ads. There are a few rotating ads at the top of the page on this website and a few on the lower left side and I'm fine with that because they scroll off the page but to permanently grab an entire vertical slice of the display screen is not acceptable to me. If software has to phone home all the time to keep working I'll do without it or find a replacement product. Even the anti-virus software on my PC's are not allowed to update themselves automatically. </end of rant> Regards, Bert |
