Yep, looks like Craig added Google adwords to the site. He chose the locations & sizes, and can even block ads if he so chooses (ie, those pesky PIC ads :-P)
You can google (ha!) 'Google adwords' to learn more about how they work, but basically, the advertisers bid for a spot to show up on relevant sites. When the ad is clicked on, the advertiser pays some to google, and some to the site it was displayed on (8052.com in this case), thereby generating revenue for 8052.com. (also called 'Pay-per-click' PPC) I believe advertisers can also choose to have their ads only show up in their geographic area, so you UK guys could very well see different ads than us in the US. It's a system that works quite well, IMO. -Dave |
