I'm not certain if you mean that when the fluctuations are present the instrument should be reading the same value each time but it starts fluctuating such that the measurements become unrepeatable and therefore untrustworthy, or if you mean that when the fluctuations go away that even though the measured value should be changing it starts giving a single value that doesn't change regardless of input. I suspect that he sees such variations when the signal ground is not connected to the chassis because he's simply not completing the circuit with his probe (or whatever). There's a signal but no signal return, and the measurement input is floating. -a |
