#141148 - Return paths ain't shields Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I hate using shields as return paths, totally defeats the purpose of the shielding. Alas it is often unavoidable. I concur with Andy. Generally, if you cannot provide a separate signal ground, common up all your grounds and earth back at the power supply and keep them separate throughout the rest of the circuit. Obviously, keep resistance and reactance in all grounds to a minimum.
Alternatively, completely isolate your measurement circuity from the rest of the circuit somehow, connecting your shield only to the isolated circuit's ground. Precautions will be necessary because the potential difference between isolated ground and system ground could be quite high. Matt. |
