sounds like a NXP P89V51Rx2

Now, THAT is a glowing example of a bootloader with NO protection whatsoever.

The ultimate proof of non-protectedness (huh... :-) ) can be found... on NXP webpages: the bootloader upgrading utility, requires NO "unlocking" action from the user.
