Hi Andy!
The data sheet that I have (downloaded it 2 years ago when I bought the modules ) states both pins as Digital data output - which is why I had shorted them. But you are absolutely correct - separating pins 2 and 3 solves the problem ! ....and,I do feel like a bit of a fool..:-) Have noted the the points about adding the URLs - will do so in future.
