#147716 - that old whine again Responding to: ???'s previous message |
If the ICP communications protocol is not published that would be be the manufacturer avoiding the overload of the support team by kitchen table programmer 'manufacturers'.
However ICP, usually, means "In Circuit Programming" and, if that is the case, then Ramtron is off their rocker if they do not publish it. Maybe they expect you to make your own bootloader and use the info in the datsheet, but I would ask Ramtron support. That would mean that they insist on your bootloader being installed using THEIR (proprietary) means. I do not like to do things in Windows. It seems like all tools in the CD:s which came along are Windows programs and I am all too used to work on Linux. not that old whine again. The fact is that the market for '51 tools is so small that there is no way in hades the makers of tools for the '51 can afford to produce versions for multiple operating systems. Thus the tools are ONLY available for the most pop ... eh .. widespread operating system and, whatever you want the world to think, that IS Windows. This is not about what is 'best' is it about simple economics. It is very possible that Linux is 'better' but that is totally irrelevant, simple business sense dictates that for a small market you produce for Wundows. Yes, there are a limited choice of tools for Linux, e.g. SDCC, but you WILL run into that one thing can not be done without Windows (in you case that will, among others, be the VERSA specific stuff), so why switch back and forth.
