#147975 - One-Laptop-Per-Child uses 8051 core, OpenEC |
Probably not widely known: the embedded controller (EC)
of the One-Laptop-Per-Child (OLPC) project uses an 8051 core:) http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Home So if the XO laptop is employed in larger numbers the 8051 will also be geographically in really widespread use... Maybe worth a look in that context: There is a project OpenEC which tries an open (GPL) implementation as an alternative to the currently used proprietary code on the kb3700. It's not yet clear whether that project can gain enough momentum to be actually used. With the XO laptop now being available I think it might make sense to announce the project here. This is the wiki page of the project: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/OpenEC Greetings, Frieder |
