#148383 - Use SPI Flash Responding to: ???'s previous message |
There are SPI flash devices that go up to size of 8 Mbytes. They come in easy to handle SO-16 packages. You can look to Intel, Spansion, ST, Atmel and others for footprint compatible devices. You will see these being used as the BIOS Flash chips on the newest generation PC motherboards and as such their price is already quite nice. Intel's part number is QH25F320S33B for a 32 Mbit part.
Note that to achieve the highest speeds with these parts their SPI serial clock is operated at speeds of 25 to 30MHz. Some parts shift even faster. These are similar to the Atmel DataFlash parts but are more optimized for larger block size applications which helps keep the cost down. For huge volume expect prices in the <$3 area. Michael Karas |
