Sadly I checked out the crc8 code and it doesn't work. I did find something called Javabean that works out the checksum correctly and made a lookup table with that, but even the checksum for 1 doesn't match up with the look up table version in the crc8 code.

It looks as though the two crc's are based on slightly different polynomials.
