I do not think a newbie can ask a 'stupid' question, but often will ask an 'uninformed' one.

Things only get 'stupid' if someone persist in an erroneous way after having been guided not to do so.

OK, there is the occasional newbie response which is 'stupid', but if a newbie start responding erroneously, then the newbie does not accept the status as newbie and is thus not entitled to newbie treatment.
