Can you please show the related asm listing (both the SPI initialisation section and the spi_transfer routine)? I, as a C-hater, don't believe any C compiler... :-)

Just a note, Philips/NXP once again shows how they are not able to produce a single decent datasheet. The concerned registers are named differently in the list of SFRs and the description of SPI... Why the #$^&* couldn't they have simply copied the original SST datasheet verbatim (not that that one is much better, but at least consistent)???
