The weirdest part is that the above does not happen if I use a DS12C887 chip instead of the DS12C887A chip.(Note the extra 'A') Look for the differences between the parts in the datasheet. The ones that jump out at me is: "RAM Clear Function (DS12885, DS12887A, and DS12C887A)" (page 1) and "No Connection. This pin should remain unconnected. Pin 21 is RCLR for the DS12887A/DS12C887A. On the EDIP, these pins are missing by design." on page 9. The datasheet states that the "RAM Clear" function shouldn't affect your RTC but that could ultimately depend on whether or not your software is using the part's RAM in some way that could subsequently impact the RTC's time. In any case, focus on the differences between the two parts in the datasheet. Regards, Craig Steiner |
