#15500 - RE: Open Source TCP/IP
Dear Mr. Hazelwood

What we are looking for ? Just sending bytes from one location to another through different ways.
As Michael Schmitt said not everybody wants to have the coffee machine online.
But maybe we would like to upgrade the inside microcontroller flash code.
Or we would like to know if the vendor machine needs refresh.
Or a beautiful web page refreshed in real time with informations coming far away from our application.

In fact, why open source ?
If we take a look at CMX TCP/IP stack price, it worth only if we work in a development team with great budget.
There are a lot of advices on Internet concerned to the border between implemented ourself the TCP/IP stack or use another already build in separate chip.
The Connectone CO561AD-S/20PC-5 or awarded Seiko Instruments S7600 are only two examples of hardware implementation at different prices.
Don't you think it's much easier to attach these kind of device to your system rather than implement the TCP/IP stack ?
Why use 8052 micro and not try to implement it in CPLD ? Because we don't try to reinvent the wheel !
If you think that implementing the TCP/IP stack is a real chalenge and believe you can do it with less system resources than others, then good luck.
Can you believe that people involved in CMX TCP/IP stack project will share informations with us ?

Best regards
Silviu
