Sorry, I misread your post. I wrongly assumed AVRISP.
Since the 89S5253 has several fuse settings, it is worth getting your programmer to read these. A common problem with AVRs is for the device to be using a different clock to what the user thinks. Perhaps a similar situation where the fuses have been set after the erase. The programmer should reliably read the signature bytes and security bits. You should also be able to read an erased chip as FF FF ... David. |
