Found it! It always pays to write down your fault, then you can view it more analytically, even if it means nothing to anyone else.
The ground on all of the 047 pins was left off, so the uC was powering up through the DIP switch...... Still many of my questions remain valid. so any responses are still appreciated. Now to get new boards made. Regards Marshall |
