The cost to move to Compact Flash is going to be rather high though. As an example a 32MB card goes for about $30 and I would also have to buy a CF connector. A single 256Mb NAND flash chip from Samsung can be purchased for ~$10. My project will be going into production so this extra $20 cost is too much.

As far as interfacing to memory, NAND flash does not have the tradition address line access like linear flash or SRAM. It is more command based and structured like a hard drive with sectors.
