#158300 - Question for ErikM ICP bridge hardware
Or anyone else who has first hand knowledge. I'm building a new hardware piece for programming our prototype MPU's and I'm interested in the mcb900 as an ICP programmer. I will be using the lpc936 for the bridge mpu. I have some operational questions that need some clarification.

First off, I want to add that I've spoke with flashmagictools support and he was able to give some guidance but was a bit unsure of a few things, but referred me to your work. I know that the communication from the hardware to flashmagic between the bridge MPU is ISP, and the output becomes ICP to program the target device.

I will be using the push pull config hardware on the hardware side for ICP for the VDD fix.

Now, starting with a new populated blank MPU. I know that I have to include the nxp reference NAND gates to first program the bridge MPU with the ICP bridge code just as if it were a production/prototype MPU and in theory is should be "done".....

Now my question. Once the bridge MPU is programmed, I assume that I must take it out of the "reset" jumper mode (assuming I build it like the mcb900 with the two jumpers) and put it bridge MPU in "run" mode.

I was also told the bridge MPU is "transparent" to flashmagic, which lead me to the question, if the bridge MPU is in "run" mode, won't the flashmagic tool time out because the reset is not active?? What must the condition of the bridge MPU be in to properly have the ISP command converted to ICP? I'm assuming the bridge code is what is converting it (makes sense) but isn't flash magic waiting for the call back through the UART to tell it that the programming can begin? Or does the bridge code send something back to flashmagic to allow the program to "see" the hardware is ready but in reality the ISP to ICP conversion is happening.

My core project is using DPDT switchs to reroute the UART lines which will have two outputs, one for ISP programming connector, and ICP output connector, so one board to do either job based on which position the switch is in. I am looking for some feedback on the actual operation so I can ensure I can set up the hardware correctly.

If I missed anything, please let me know. I already have a prelimary schematic in place if a visual is needed.

thanks for any feedback you can provide.

Chris
