Is this a school project where those requirements are in the project, so you must use them in some way, even if it doesn't make sense for for job ?

If not, you should tell us what is going on in the controller that receives the serial data... why is that controller more suited to do it than the lcd/kbd controller ?

Are you using the memory as an lcd bitmap ?
