You are right.
Xbee explorer has diode on DIN line , but nothing on DOUT line. If Your micro is running on 5V - connect DOUT to P3.0 via some resistor - let say 5k1 , at least- 1..2k. Even better - connect diode between DOUT and 3V power supply. |
