I would be highly concerned about the quality of some type of a digital scale controller that was thrown together in one day no matter whether the work was done by the foremost scale engineer or a hobbyist in a New Your coffee shop.
When I did scales the hardware took months, the layout took months, the software took (man-)years. Getting the PCB layout so that the analog was stable and with no interference took, if I remember, 12 'spins' of the PCB. Anyone can throw together a scale with a good resolution, It is a MAJOR task to make a scale with a good precision. It seems that every added digit of precision (FORGET resolution) add an order of magnitude to the price of the scale. For a "throw together" scale, the best 'precision' you can expect will be in the order of +-3% or worse. This is based on the results from a "temporary hardware" used in the beginning of the software development. You can add 17 digits to the readout, that does not make for a better precision. Erik |
