The precision of a scale very much depends on it having the correct voltage.
Not all home scales have a step-up circuit so the scale will only measure within the rated precision while the battery have enough voltage to keep the electronics correctly supplied. If you have a scale with LED digits, then you will also get a huge battery drain when the scale is activated. That was exactly what the previous poster did mention - the need for people to replace the battery when the battery warning was displayed. Same thing with multimeters. A lot of multimeters will start to produce very strange measurements if used after the battery warning indicator has started to display. There are huge numbers of - even quite expensive - battery-driven equipment out there that does not contain step-up circuits, in which case you can't drain the batteries all the way with maintained functionality. |
