I think you need a circuit that generates a well defined low-level pulse when it receives the peripheral low level request. This circuit is called a monostable. There are many alternatives to implement a monostable. From the venerable 555 to a Schmitt trigger gate (for example the 40106 or the 4093 in CMOS) or specific monostable circuits.
