SDCC is nice - but it's failure to support absolute locations is prohibitive on the 8051. I looked into modifying it, but since it's a generated compiler, a modification like absolute addressing is time consuming - if I'm going to put that much work into it, I'll rewrite it.

So I'm still looking, and just doing everything in assembly until I find something cheap AND complete.
