#2617 - RE: 8051 C Compiler |
Steve,
That's not too bad. I am interested in getting a better assembler/compiler set merely because I don't have linker capability with my Metalink assembler. I'd pay a little more for C capability in the process even though I won't use it much (I write C for PCs but just don't believe its proper for microcontrollers). Since I only need linker capability for my assembler, $700 is not quite a low enough price to motivate me. I'm sure no one cares about that. :-) I was looking at the Keil package and was ready to spend the big dollars until I saw the continuing pricing for support. I pay about $1,500 in yearly maintenance fees on my PCB CAD software, and I have no problem with that. But compilers? Naw.... Besides, for a $1,000 compiler, I expect support across processors. My money is here ready if those companies ever decide they want it under my terms. :-) -Jay C. Box |
