Hi Michael,
Looks like I need to learn a bit more about how mosfets work, and about how to use them. Yes, I was expecting there to be solid reasoning behind the complexity of the circuit you had proposed. Maybe I should be looking for a full 6-gate 74HC14 in a suitably small package. Curiously, it appears you get all 6 gates for the same power requirement as the 1G version!
