#18809 - RE: PSP Philip |
Erik,
Perhaps i don't understand what a PSP is! I thought it was a bi-directional parallel port that could be bus attached (rd/wr/cs). intel originated this type xface (in u-c's) with the UPI (universal peripheral interface) as implemented in the UPI-452, 8044, intel/Signetics-Philips 80c451, and 80c41/2. The UPI-452 (shipping from intel) and 8044 are 8051 variants while the 8x42 UPI's are not. Notably, the PC XT used 8742's in the keyboard interface. It looks to still be shipping from intel with an improved version UPI-C42. The 8044 UPI was a serial communication co-processor and your are correct it looks not to be shipping. To bad the 80c451 is discontinued as it is/was a great chip with it's 7 ports with one suited to UPI, ever use it? Glad i still have some laying around. regards, p |
