Well Gopal it certainly is difficult, but I guess that is the purpose of projects isn't it? To get some real experience? Life does not hand you simple projects on a plate... Time and resource management are essential skills students are expected to learn during their project.

My point of view is that practical experience is much more important than theoretical knowledge, since if you can't *apply* that theory, what's the use? A really well-executed, technically demanding project says much more about your engineering abilities than text-book grades (obviously, my grades never were any good :D !! But then again I got fantastic marks for my project ;D)

Anyway, I can broadly offer 3 more ways to go about it (besides going to companies):

1) Think of something you'd LIKE to do, find out its feasibility and do it. It can be absolutely anything you have an interest in. At least certainly do so at a broader level e.g. decide on networks, instrumentation, robotics, etc... since there is a HUGE bunch of things you could do with a microcontroller

2) Do a *better* search the net for on-going projects for ideas ;) The net includes this forum itself. Use google

3)Think about automating (read destroying) something at home :)
