I agree with Sivakumar's suggestion to use FLASH device like ATMEL's 89C52 or 89S8252 (the latter part has a built in EEPROM, which can be nice :-) ), so you don't have to bother with a UV eraser. Check www.atmel.com/atmel/products/prod20.htm For a programmer, I suggest you take a look at Conitec (www.conitec.com). They have a really nice, pocket-sized programmer that can handle almost every programmable device you can think of.
