You did not tell how many wires are coming out of your stepper motor...if there is a common wire and four 'phases' then your circuit may be very simple: using four port pins,four npn transistors with their base resistors you drive the stepper by presenting bit combinations that will allow forward or reverse,single or half step.
have a little search on google...they explain much better than I do.
