Transformers protect from unequal ground references and unwanted currents, but there is nothing to prevent a static charge from jumping the windings. The circuit must be designed with this in mind.
Same with optos - nothing prevents a person from shocking the connecting wire and damaging the electronics connected to it. It must be designed to accept them and keep working. |
