#21416 - RE: RTOS on basic 8051 possible? |
Gopal Amlekar wrote: ------------------------------- Hello all, I am starting fresh in the embedded systems field with a background in 8051 assembly and C programming. I went thru some earlier posts on similar subjects. I've also read the application note from philips's website about uC/OS on Philips XA. Well, my question here is, can a RTOS be built on a basic 8051 with 4kB or more code memory and 128 bit or some more RAM? i don't think it is possible. but is it that we must have some 16 bit processor like the XA? Second question is whether building an RTOS is better or working on some standard available RTOS? what do the professionals in this field do? As a good career future, what should be a better option? Any more information or link to study the RTOS or embedded systems subject will be welcome. Thanks to all........ RTOS packages come in many sizes and shapes depending on what it is that you really want to do. CMX makes some truely outstanding packages. In many cases you can get 1 or more RTOS packages in the compiler kit that you purchase. Keil has one included in their PK51 kit that takes up some 800 bytes and has limited facilities or a more complete Full RTOS can be purchases separately for about $2,000. Raisonance has an equivilent tiny RTOS package available in it's RKitP51, and both the tiny and full versions in it's RKitE51 package. We also include the source code in the RKitE51 package. This can be very handy to help tune the RTOS to your specific needs. Bryan Whitton American Raisonance |
