#2159 - Video Graphics with an 8052
Hello All!!!!

This might be a strange question, or it might not.. information on the subject seems to be far and few between on the net.

What I want to do is us an 8052 (or perhaps an AVR, shock horror!!) and a minimal amount of support electronics (using minimal in a loose sort of sense)to generate a COLOR PAL/NTSC composite video signal which can be connected to a small LCD video screen. On the screen I want to display graphics and text. I don't have a problem with all the bitmap handling, external RAM and stuff that it will require, but I have no idea how to generate the video output.. I have a vague understanding of how composite video works, but I don't understand where the color component of the picture is coming from, or the exact details of blanking and syncing.

Because of the size of the screen I'll be using, the resolution of the system only needs to be small.. 240x180 would be more than enough!! However, I would like to be able to display 256 colours at a time (i.e. 8-bits-per-pixel).

If you've read this far, thank-you for your time!!! I would be really greatful for any help.

Thanks.

Matt.
