Are you polling the switch? Is the switch either on or off or does it have a center "no-connect" position. If it is either on or off. Poll the switch at start up, save the switch state. On successive polls check to see if the current state is different from the last poll state if so ask yourself is it on or off then take the appropriate action (saving this new state). If it has a center (no-connect) then use two pins. poll both pins at power up save their state and upon succesive polls look for change. If it has changed is it on or off then do as above. Depending upon the period of your polling you might want a new state to be required to be found at least twice prior to accepting it as valid.
