I had a similar problem with IAR's C compiler when they added some ANSI required type checking. The solution is simple: cast the pointer to the required type, so the compiler knows that's really what you want to do. Then let the compiler handle the details...

For example, if a function's input parameter is declared func (const char *); and your character string char *xyz is in DATA space (not const/CODE space) cast it: func((const char *)xyz);
