I am clear on this but still can't see how to read the latch rather than the pins when executing from internal code space. My data sheet didn't make it immediately obvious that orl, anl etc only read the latch when the DESTINATION operand is a port, although I realise this is obvious given a little thought. What I am trying to achieve is more or less exactly what I think Pranav is trying to do - read the latch without modifying the contents and store it in some arbitrary location.
