As far as I know, SMC is the only mfg. of arcnet chips. They still make the COM20020 which is basically the same controller that was in the COM20051l... just without the 8051. It would be a cinch to move any existing code over to a design with seperate '51 and COM20020.
Although overshadowed by ethernet, arcnet is still a valid and useful transport. If you already have an existing product and your customers aren't pushing for a change, there really is no reason to switch to ethernet. As always, why re-invent the wheel? Joe. |
