#24163 - RE: basic question on IO |
First off, thank you all for repling.
I am working on a design to use a Dallas 'C550 or a Philips 'C552. The concern I'm having is the best use of the port hardware. I guess I looking at the problem from the wrong direction, I haven't defined all the functions I will be using on the chip. It will be used in a robotics project, and I want to be able add hardware interfaces later. More to the point, if I use timer2 in capture mode, using say channel 1 & 2 triggers, can the pins for the other channels be used as GIO? The bit addressable nature of the ports seem to allow this, but the data sheets don't spell it out in black and white. I guess the bottom line is if you use a on-chip resource, such as a timer or PWM, will that commit all the assocated pins to their alt function? Sorry to go on and on, just hoping to learn from your experiance. Bill |
