The answer is yes to your question.

You can drive up to 16 seven segment displays By using a TIL311 HEXADECIMAL DISPLAY WITH LOGIC, an a 74LS393.

Four lines would be for data for the TIL311 displays, one line would be used to advance the 74LS393 binary counter and the last line would be use to generate a reset for the 74LS393. You can find a data sheet for the TIL311 at the following address, www-unix.oit.umass.edu/~phys532/til311.pdf.

I have purchased the TIL311 for $7.00 each from different suppliers.
